3 Is maokong a good place to watch the new years fireworks of Taipei 101?

Is it super crowded there like everywhere else is going to be, or is it possible to sit and have dinner at a tea house and still get a good veiw of the fireworks.

I dont know if you will see much without going higher into the hills. Plus, it kind of depends on which way you are facing because that area is kind of in the mountains. You might only get to see like the top half of the tower because the rest is blocked by a hill.

I think you can count on having a crowd there. Its new years and people usually will go out and celebrate. The size of the crowd can’t be predicted right now because nobody knows how many people are actually going to go.

edit: Yangmingshan is a great place also, but you still have to make sure that your view of Taipei isnt being obstructed by another hill and you can definitely count on a crowed there. Also, you still have to go higher into the mountain to see more of the city.

I personally think Yangmingshang is a better place to see this. There are many hot spring resorts up there which some has very classy hot spring bath tub inside your room and it is open air and you can see the Taipei night view, in order words you can see Taipei 101 fireworks event. But be advised that during this season, usually it is pretty fully booked for the resorts and the pricing is little bit high.

If you can go to dinner at a teahouse that is up high with a good view of Taipei 101 that somehow isn’t obstructed by other buildings, go for it!

I think you can count on it being insanely crowded in any public, freely accessible location with a good view of Taipei 101. Plan to pack lightly and probably warmly. Use layers so if the crowds are tight and you are hot, you can strip them off and tie them around your waist or put them into a backpack…

I would suspect the MaoKong gondola is an OK spot to watch from. But I have yet to ride it, personally.
Tower 16 might be a bit of an adventure for some people one day.
