12 Are you supposed to give a bribe to cops in the Philippines?

I had a problem with a drunkard trying to close the door to my house, called the cops but they did nothing. When telling friends here about it The people make a hand signal with left hand & hold up the 3 little finger & ask did I give the cops a gift? Am I supposed to give the cops a gift (bribe) to get anything done? If so how much?

Why not if they can make my day better.

Don’t ever try it. " Do not cannibalized the cow". Discourage others from doing it. If ever the police will personally asked for a money, you can report them to NAPOLCOM or NBI.

You are not supposed to. Even if it sometimes seems that way – - even if you feel like they are waiting for grease money. If you encounter an honest cop (some will say "Does he exist?") you could even be arrested and land in jail. It is illegal.

I have never even tried to bribe cops or traffic enforcers. I would rather queue to retrieve my license and pay the legal fines if I commit a traffic violation.

Another shameful act,i feel sorry for that,i think your one of those foreigner staying for a while in the country, basically you dont need to bribe them as they suppose to serve not only the citizens but so as the safety of all the foreigners living in the country, but in some place not all, cops just play this kind of game as they see you as financially capable of doing so,if you want to be extra safe play the game, you can be a GOD for them, having a good relation through this could be benificial for you, if i got enough money why not? it’s not that expensive too,it’s like having a body guard, cops make special treatment if you got something that’s the way it is,giving cash could just make you a whale, how about inviting them for some drinks, even the local residence can be your personal guards,it work’s,,this is just suggestions,as your in a place where cops dont run unless they have a fuel..

This kind of thing is happening everywhere. But the way i look at it; there is no taker if there is no giver. So, don’t tolerate this. It is their duty to serve the people, community and the country as a whole.

Be very, very careful with this scenario. A monetary exchange between you and the police feeds the problem. As a visitor here, I don’t think enough can be said about developing a good relationship with the local Baranguay Captain. I am not necessarily talking about being social friends, but if your respected within your community you will have a base to stand on if you need him. Do your civic duty here, and when you need something you can’t handle yourself, you will be able to go to the Brg.Capt. with your problem. In most cases he can get the situation resolved. Not all Brg. Capt.’s are honest without corruption, but they are elected officials that want harmony with-in their area if possible.

the cops ddin’t find sufficient grounds to arrest him lest they themselves be thrown out ot police service for power abuse, harassments, etc.
but you’re not supposed to bribe the cops for you yourself could be arrested if they happen to be the friends or having connections with that drunk.

    Negative to the main question.

As for the example given and the cops "did nothing", what was it they were supposed to do given the situation?

The drunkard was simply closing the door to your house, which he saw wide open. In fact, he did you service because the act might have saved your property from burglars.

  9. Bhe says:

No, That’s a support for corruption.

NO!!!!! Don’t entertain such bad idea.
    Take care and GOD BLESS.
