7 How can I make it to Southern California and how do I survive?

I live in Tennessee and want to go to california I need suggestions on how much it may cost to move on the bare minimum. I have my own car to drive there but mainly when I get there I need to know how to survive. I have thought about being a stripper but I really dont want to do that.
Has anyone ever done this themself?

NEVER, EVER, move someplace without securing a well-paying and secure job, first.
To move here, your first month will run you close to $7000. That includes first and last months’ rents, a security deposit, utility deposits, food, insurance, vehicle transfer fees, etc. That will give you a $1100/mo studio apt in a relatively nice neighborhood. Of course, that’s if someone will rent to you, and that’s not likely if you haven’t been at your job at least 6 months and have a squeaky-clean credit report.
The prudent thing to do is to come here with at least $15,000 to see you through the first 6 months and gas back to TN if you can’t find a job that pays enough to cover the rent, utilities, food, gas, car maintenance, and auto insurance.
With unemployment reaching 10%, finding ANY job is unlikely ("want fries with that?" for $7.75/hr will not go very far).
Please stay in TN. Our welfare offices are brimming with people who need public assistance because they can’t find work. If you haven’t heard, CA is just about bankrupt (no state budget yet, and they’ve been working on this for 6 months already). That means that the welfare office won’t have any money to give ANYBODY.
Oh, one more thing; stripping is an underworld unto itself. Drugs, sexual assault, prostitution, sex slavery, and the porn industry are inexorably linked. Don’t end up as another exploited girl following pie-in-the-sky dreams about coming to make it big in LA. It ain’t gonna happen.

Don’t ever be focused on that job. You won’t survive, too many! I’ve been visiting Southern California for many times, from Chicago, IL to Southern California, the weather gets not "used to", but, here is your survival guide:

    Flip-flops,
    Summer clothes (rainy clothes to),
An eye out for natural disasters,
A good job, if your starting off, meet a friend/relative, and ask them,
    A house/hotel/apartment.

Got a education, can you wait tables, nice breasts, don’t mind eating Top Ramen for a little while? Trust me if you want it, it will happen. It is expensive at first but things happen quickly here and your off and running. You will be fine. Rent for a month is about 600.00 for a room, I pay 1350.00 for a two bedroom house. You need a job that pays minimum wage and tips or at least twelve bucks a hour if you want a beer/glass of wine and good meal after work. Strippers are a dime a dozen and unless you are a ten or more it isn’t worth it to degrade yourself here for a life of that and what goes with it. Go for it!

i live in southern california and my family owns a little townhouse in tennessee too! anyways, the weather is really different. in tennessee, it’s really humid and rainy. in southern california, it’s a dry season. we’re a dessert! we have a fire season all year round. in fact, we just suffered from a pretty big fire a month or two ago. my poor neighbor’s house caught on fire on christmas eve too!

anyways, right now is probably the worst time to move to california and you’ll lose ur money. you see, the worst earthquake is bound to happen within the next few years. every 150 years, there’s a HUGE earthquake in california because of the san andreas fault. now, it’s been 300 years since the last one, so we’re wayyyyy over due.

there are tons of other jobs around here besides being a stripper. you just have to work your way up. say, think of your degrees and such and work with that advantage. if you’ve graduated from medical school, then go work at kaiser permanente or the american red cross. work with your advantages!

driving will take at a minimum of 2-3 days. and that’s without stopping to be a tourist. depending on the type of car you have, you might have to spend tons of money on gas. houses, apartments, and condos all have one thing in common. THE UPRISE IN PRICE. it’s going to be fairly expensive depending on what area you choose to live in. may i suggest NOT living in LA directly? perhaps in the suburbs instead?

it’s going to be a huge decision to move. think it over more before you do anything. good luck with whatever your choice is!

As of right now, because of the economy, a job opening in Los Angeles is almost non existent. With the closings of Shoe Pavilion, Linens-N-Things, Mervyns, and Circuit City (soon to be), it’s going to be EVEN MORE difficult.

You will also need about $10,000 to start off.

Decent prices start at $1000 mo. for either an extremely small studio or a 1bd/1ba apartment if you’re lucky. There is no such thing as $550 mo. here. A minimum waged job alone will barely pay the rent. Remember, you need to eat, you need water, gas, electric, personal hygiene, etc.

Bottom Line: Look elsewhere, in 3 months you will probably be back in Tennessee with no improvement whatsoever.

♫♪♫♪♫ – The San Andreas fault ruptured a 6.0 in 2004! What do you mean the San Andreas hasn’t shook for 300 years??
