9 How busy will Disneyland be at Thanksgiving and just after?

We want to travel to Disneyland, California, around Thanksgiving. How busy will it be? Is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving Thursday crowded? How about the Friday after? How about the Tuesday AFTER Thanksgiving? Also, when will the park put up its Christmas decorations? Thank you!!

Hello, According to Disneyland website on the FAQ. The crowds increase for Christmas and that begins with weekends after mid November.

    Good Luck!

The day after Thanksgiving is historically, the busiest day of the year at the Disneyland Resort. The entire week of Thanksgiving is very busy, but if you must go then, go early in the week. If you can wait until the next week it will be much less crowded, barring any special events. Traditionally, Disneyland will put up some Christmas decorations as early as October 1st (for example they transform the Haunted Mansion into a Nightmare Before Christmas themed attraction at that time.) However, the entire Christmas decor and events will go up the day after Thanksgiving.

The week of Thanksgiving will be busy, with it getting busier as the week goes on. Monday and Tuesday should not be extremely bad, but starting Wed you will notice the crowds increasing. The Friday after Thanksgiving is traditionally one of the busiest days of the year. If you have a choice go the week after Thanksgiving as the crowds will be lower.

The majority of the decorations start to go up on November 1st, and are up by Veterans Day weekend. But do not think of going Veterans Day weekend, this is almost as bad as Thanksgiving week. The Christmas Parade and Holiday Fireworks are the last ones to start and do not usually start until the weekend before Thanksgiving. The one area of Disneyland that gets them before is the New Orleans Square area. These get put up on September 21st for the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay with the Nightmare Before Christmas.

One note if you do go the week after Thanksgiving and are there on December 1st/2nd, there is the Annual Candlelight Processional. It really effects only the area in the front of the Main Street Train Station but there will be more locals in the park those days to view this. It still won’t be as busy as Thanksgiving week but there will be increased crowd levels.

    OC1999 has it right…

Just to answer your last question: Decorations start going up around the first week of November. The tree should by in ty the 9th. Holiday parades and fireworks shows start nov 16th. Avoid the day after Thanksgiving. It’s safer at the malls.

Call 714-781-DINE as soon as you finalize your schedule, to make sit down dining reservations, especially if you want to treat yourself to the Blue Bayou. We always like the Carnation Cafe on Main St. In November, the soup is great comfort food.

Thanksgiving and the day after are crazy there. It’s wall to wall people, or at least it was when I went there. If you have to go at that time, pick the Tuesday before or after. They’ll probably be about the same crowd-wise. Decorations are usually up around Halloween. Have fun.

we’ve always taken our 4 kids the week AFTER Veterns Day. Lines are minimal, Xmas decor is up, weather is good. Never had to wait longer than 20 minutes at this time for a ride. Don’t go on the holiday, you’ll regret that.
