I went a few years ago :) Not at Xmas though. I would recommend toys r us in times square. I hope they still have the ferris wheel and the dinosaur :) It's silly, but it's fun there ;)
And Times square in general.
5th Avenue. There's a huuuuuge sweet shop there. And lots of shops :)
Brooklyn Bridge.
The usual. Like statue of liberty and Ellis Island. And Empire State Building.

Hope you have fun :D

The Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show with the Rockettes.
Ice skating at Rockefeller Center.
A horse and buggy ride through Central Park, especially if it's snowing.

I'm from Scotland and my husband and I went just in May this year, I went onto millions of websites to see what the top 10 things to do were, but found that the people that devised these lists didn't have the typical tourist in mind, some of them listed really unusual things. we went for 7 days and did loads, on the first day we got our bearings and only stayed local to Park Ave where we stayed, we went to Times square the first night, we had breakfast every morning in Grand central Terminal which is the most amazing place ever, go there and at an intersection of the building (it's a square shaped part) where all the corridors lead of to, go into the corner and send someone to a diagonal corner and speak because you will hear the person even though your not shouting, it's a bit geeky looking but you have to try it at least once. We went on the open top buses the whole of the second day, we did the hop on,hop off downtown tour in the morning, got off and got lots of fakes from China town, then did the uptown tour in the afternoon, but the BEST tour is the nighttime tour, which leaves at about 7 or 8pm and takes you accross Brooklyn and you look across to Manhattan at night with all the lights on the buildings, it's an amazing tour, but because it will be Christmas it'll be freezing , it was freezing in May, so make sure your well wrapped up, as it is the most amazing trip. We went ot the top of the empire state building in the evening too, we went to the top of the rock during the day, it had a cafe there when we were there, but when your there it'll have the famous tree there, top of the rock is a great trip too, a walk down 5th avenue going in and out of all those designer shops is brill, we also took a trip to an outlet centre called Woodbury commons, which you get the bus from the port authority bus terminus and it has Gap, juicy couture, loads of big name shops but at outlet prices, make sure you take srong arms cos you'll buy loads there, we saw people taking their suitcases to throw everything in it. We did the TV and Movie tour again this was great, they took us to the friends apartment, as well as lots of TV locations (not sure your age) but the cosby show, when harry met sally, etc. we stopped at a pizza shop that Men in black was filmed in and it's the best pizza I have ever tasted in my life. we did Madamme tuessauds, but wouldn't recommend it as we didn't think they looked like the people much, but that's one thing on some of these top 10 lists but honestly they aren't that great. we went for my 40th birthday and on my actual birthday we went to Statue of lIberty, (make sure you buy your tickets online from liberty website as it guarantees you get inside the statue, you need police checks done in advance and they can't do them on the day), otherwise you'd only be allowed onto the podium, then we walked around twin towers area and around wall strreet, but asgain that was a bit boring, we rode the subway lots that day, getting off at different points, and in the evening went to Broadway show. romantic things to do is ride around central park in a horse drawn carriage, when we left the theatre we went in the back of one of the wee bicycle guys, but don't go on it if your nervous as they zoom through traffic lights and around corners fast etc, but it is a fun way to travel. lots of people that went previous to us did not do a 1/4 of what we did, but we made sure we did everything we wanted to do. we went into the FOA Swarts toy shop and played on the giant piano from the film BIG starring Tom Hanks. places to eat we loved were Hard rock cafe and TGIFridays, both in Times square. You will have a blast, but remember it is freezing there at that time of year, so take clothes you would wear here in UK.
