What’s the easiest way to get to Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg from my place which is on the Upper West Side? I just moved here and don’t know the subway lines real well yet.

take whichever downtown westside train closest to you. if you take the 8th Avenue local on Central Park West, the B or C trains (or the A or D express if rerouted to the local tracks), then take the A or C train to 14th Street / 8th Avenue. find your way to the L train, which has its last stop there, and just take the next leaving L train to Bedford Avenue, which is the first stop in Brooklyn.
if you take the B or D train take it to 14th Street / 6th Avenue, and change to the L at its 6th Avenue station towards Canarsie (Brooklyn) to Bedford. if you take the Broadway Line 1,2,3 trains, take any downtown train to 14th Street / 7th Avenue, and then walk a tunnel to the L train 6th Avenue station.

Union Square
3rd Avenue
1st Avenue
Bedford Avenue

Take the Red line 2,3 or 1 train found on Broadway downtown to 14th Street, Transfer from there to the L train. Take the L Brooklyn bound to Bedford Ave, you will be in the heart of Williamsburg when you get off the train there.
Where in Upper West Side- It strecht from 110th to 59th Sts.

Take (A)(C) to 14th St-8th Av for Brooklyn-bound (L).
Or (B)(D) to 14th St-6th Av.
Brooklyn-bound (L) leaves 8th, 6th Avs, and stops at Union Sq, 3rd, 1st Av and Bedford Av.
However, sometimes during the weekend and late night (L) has many construction work.
If there was no trains between 8th Av & Union Sq, get at special transfer ticket at 8th and 6th Avs entrance only, then take M14 bus to 1st Av for (L) shuttle to Bedford Av.
